Time stopped in Sicily on the Winter Solstice. Were we in another era?

The megaliths of Argimusco, Sicily (author’s own)

My first winter in Italy, a friend invited me to accompany her to celebrate Winter Solstice at the megalith Argimusco, about an hour from Messina. We’d find, she told me, megaliths there. I’d of course heard of Stonehenge but didn’t realize there are other mysterious stones all around the world, including in Sicily and Calabria.

Our experience at Argimusco was otherworldly. Where the day had been sunny and bright, as soon as we arrived in the afternoon, the entire place was shrouded in fog. If you’re an Outlander fan, you’ll get it when I said I fully expected the stones to transport me to another time!

The road through Argimusco (author’s own)

We spent time just soaking up the powerful energy and listening to the total stillness, save the sound of a family of goats munching their dinner!

I spent some time walking among the stones and being present with their energy. There were clusters of stones, and each one had a name based on what it looked like, like The Eagle.

We stayed all afternoon so we could watch the sun dip below the horizon on this…
