Who Are the Goddesses?

You probably remember names like Diana and Persephone from Greek mythology stories you heard as a kid, but maybe you haven’t given any more thought to those Goddesses since then.

Well, let me tell you: Goddesses are a whole lot more than stories!

The Goddess Lakshmi

Goddesses were worshipped long before Christianity brought a male God front and center, and I think it’s a shame this practice has been lost.

Nearly every culture has Goddesses: Indian, Greek, Roman, Chinese, Japanese, Native American…they can’t all be wrong, can they?!

For me, the Goddesses represent Divine knowledge and power. You might hear about people talking to spirit guides, angels, or animal guides…well, you can do the same with the Goddesses!

In the old days, before Christianity, people would ask different Goddesses for different things. Lakshmi for wealth. Aphrodite for love. Athena for warrior strength. I like the idea of specialists, rather than one overarching generalist God. It’s kinda like having a doctor specializing in surgery, podiatry, or neurology. You feel like you’re getting better results if they have a focus, right?

There are hundreds, if not thousands of Goddesses (I have a book with one for every day of the year!), though there are a few that many of us are familiar with:

  • Athena, Goddess of Wisdom (Greek)
  • Aphrodite, Goddess of Love (Greek)
  • Lakshmi, Goddess of Abundance (Hindu)
  • Kali, Goddess of Death (Hindu)

When we go within and are willing to hear what the Goddesses have to say, we tap into our higher selves. We are able to clear the noise that distracts us on a daily basis so we can better listen to our intuition.
